FARO Technologies (www.faro.com) is seeking a capable, enthusiastic intern to work with our optical systems and electrical engineering R&D teams in Lake Mary, FL.  The intern(s) would support development of present and next-generation contactless laser line probes (LLPs), coordinate measurement machines (CMMs) and related optical imaging and metrology equipment.  The intern(s) can expect to contribute to design aspects such as emitter and detector comparison, selection, and evaluation; lens selection and characterization; imaging system design; optical system-level characterization; and development of algorithms.

Preferred attributes include the following:
·         Strong general knowledge of optical systems, including basic paraxial imaging system design, illumination & photometry principles, aberration effects, basic colorimetry, optical properties of materials, thin films, etc.
·         Understanding of semiconductor emitters (LEDs, edge emitting and VCSEL laser diodes) and detectors, including photodiodes, CMOS sensors, CCDs, etc.
·         Familiarity with optical and electrical measurement systems such as oscilloscopes, spectrometers, spectrophotometers, goniometers, integrating spheres, etc.
·         Programming experience (some experience with Matlab, Mathematica or similar software required; C/C++ or other object oriented programming experience a plus)
·         Familiarity with FPGAs, PCBs, and/or analog circuitry helpful
·         Competent and confident decision making skills, good communication, positive attitude and willingness to learn
·         Both undergraduate and graduate students will be considered.
