RPI summer school in Physics
This from RPI
We are hosting a summer
school on computational physics, “Advanced
Cyberinfrastructure Training for Modeling Physical Systems at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute,” with
particular emphasis on applications that require high performance computing,
here at Rensselaer in July 2019. The summer school is aimed at advanced
undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Housing, travel and meals
are included. We would appreciate it if you would distribute the updated
flyer and new schedule, linked below, to students who might be interested in
attending. The deadline for applications has now been extended April 15,
2019.
Any
questions about the program can be directed to me.
Sincerely,
and thank you,

Vanderbilt University NSF- Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering
I am reaching out to inform you that we are
now accepting applications for the summer 2019 NSF REU program in Nanoscience
and Nanoengineering at Vanderbilt University. The application deadline is
February 15th. The Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science
and Engineering (VINSE) focuses on interdisciplinary nanoscale research at the
interface of chemistry, physics, biology and engineering. More than 40 faculty
participants from the School of Engineering, College of Arts and Science, and
the School of Medicine inspire students by creating an atmosphere of excitement
and creativity. Each REU participant will work directly with VINSE faculty
members and their research groups and be part of the larger VINSE community.
The VINSE REU has a record of success, 70% of former VINSE NSF
REU students attend graduate school and have received several awards and honors including:
·
13 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships (another 7 received honorable
mentions)
·
6 Goldwater Fellowships
·
1 Gates Cambridge Fellowship
·
1 NASA Graduate Fellowship
·
3 NIH Awards: 1 Graduate Fellowship, 1 Postbac ITRA, 1
Oxford-Cambridge Scholar
·
>40% of former REU students have (or are expected to) co-author
a journal publication
·
More than half of our former REU students have given a
presentation outside the REU program including 21 at National Conferences
funded by the REU site
PROGRAM INCLUDES
·
Hands-on research in state-of-the-art
facilities
·
Seminars, workshops, and field trips
·
Group social activities and banquet
·
Optional outreach opportunities to high
school students
ELIGIBILITY
·
Undergraduate students majoring in science
or engineering
·
U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
·
Minorities and women strongly encouraged to
apply
AWARD
·
$5,000 stipend
·
$500 travel allowance
·
Room and board
We would like to make this opportunity available to your
students at all stages of the undergraduate careers and from all institutions
including community colleges. We would appreciate if you would forward them
this information. Please visit: https://www.vanderbilt.edu/vinse/reu/ for

Summer Internships in Laser Science and Engineering
The Army Research Laboratory’s Advanced Solid-State Lasers Team is involved in creating enabling technology for high power lasers. Research topics vary over time, but typically include solid-state lasers at cryogenic temperatures, ceramic laser gain media, eye-safer laser concepts, spectroscopy of novel laser materials, fiber lasers, and stimulated Brillouin scattering. One to three students will be hired as summer interns in 2019. We are seeking undergraduate and graduate student candidates in physics, electrical engineering, materials sciences, and optics, who are U.S. citizens. Dual citizenship or permanent residence status is insufficient. First-time participants must have at least one full year of school to complete following the summer of 2019. For more information, or to submit a résumé and transcript, send email to DEscholars@arl.army.mil. Applicants should state in the email that they meet both the citizenship and continuing education requirements. To receive full consideration, applications should be received by February 15, 2019. Program sponsored by the Directed Energy Professional Society www.deps.org. This research is pursued at ARL’s facility in Adelphi, MD.

Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Engineering Students
Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership
·
We help students, faculty, staff, and recent
alumni embrace the entrepreneurial mindset.
·
Our programs, events, and competitions are open to
all UCF students from all disciplines and degree programs.
·
We also offer FREE one-on-one coaching in the Blackstone
LaunchPad (located on the first floor of the Student Union); our
coaches have experience from a variety of industries and serve clients at every
step of the entrepreneurial journey.
You might be wondering why students in the College of
Engineering would be interested in entrepreneurship. Engineering students have a
natural knack for innovation; they might know how to create something, but need
some guidance on commercialization. We can help students learn and practice the
entrepreneurial mindsets and skillsets that are sought after by leading
engineering employers like Siemens and Harris.
Upcoming Events and Competitions
·
We’ll be kicking off the semester with a series
of events during the second week of classes (1/14-1/18) – all of the events
are featured on our website.
·
Additionally, the JOUST
New Venture Competition will be taking place this spring, with up to
$75,000 awarded in seed funding and in-kind services.
·
More information, including eligibility and
important dates, is all available online.
Remember – with the exception of competitions, our
resources are available to you as well! If there’s any way the CEL could be of
service to your students or for your own entrepreneurial pursuits, don’t
hesitate to reach out.
