FABRICATION MANAGER

Responsibilities:
·         Responsible for all Fabrication initiatives, including: production, engineering, process control, process development, tooling design, cost reduction, and quality improvement 
·         Manage all department manufacturing operations within two fabrication departments
·         Manage the supervisors and the engineering staff that support the two fabrication departments
·         Establish and execute manufacturing plans
·         Develop capital and departmental budgets and control department spending
·         Develop new fabrication/polishing processes for crystals and optics and to improve/modify/perfect existing processes
·         Establish and execute training programs for all department personnel
·         Ensure all SYNOPTICS’ policies and procedures are implemented and maintained
·         Perform other responsibilities as assigned/required

Requirements:
·         Bachelor’s Degree in a business or scientific discipline required; MBA preferred
·         Minimum 3 years of experience working in a relevant manufacturing environment in a supervisory/leadership capacity
·         Must be familiar with and show success in Lean Manufacturing disciplines and process improvements
·         Must possess the ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals


ELECTRO-OPTICAL/MEASUREMENTS ENGINEER

Responsibilities:
  • Develop new metrology techniques
  • Develop fabrication processes for new products; Make improvements to processes for existing products
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the cutting, shaping, grinding, and polishing processes for current all new materials
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the current metrology techniques at SYNOPTICS as well as creating new measurement techniques (customer required or for in-house characterization)
  • Transitioning new metrology techniques to a manufacturing environment
  • Create written documentation for new processes and process improvements, for both fabrication and metrology
  • Participate in developing new business opportunities
·         Participate in team projects developing process improvement methods, solutions, and procedures to enhance quality, cost, and scheduling

  • Provide technical training for manufacturing employees, which will require shift flexibility on a limited basis
  • Work cooperatively with manufacturing personnel to develop, improve, and transition processes to manufacturing

Requirements:
·         Bachelor’s Degree in Physics or Optics is required; a related engineering degree will be considered
·         1-3 years of industry experience is preferred, which would include having knowledge of lasers, spectroscopy, optical fabrication and/or optical testing
·         Thorough understanding of the fabrication processes of cutting, shaping, grinding, and polishing
·         Ability to work in a team environment working closely with engineers, technicians, operators, and management across various disciplines
·         Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required
·         Knowledge of hardware/software interfacing (e.g. Labview) is a plus


PROGRAMMER ANALYST

Responsibilities:
·         Develop, test, and maintain client/server applications and other components using Microsoft C#.NET (Visual Studio 2012 or higher), and SQL Server 2008 (or higher) stored procedures, primarily to support manufacturing, accounting, and sales processes
·         Develop, test, and maintain complex TSQL stored procedures that contain product flow, scheduling, and other business control logic
·         Actively participate in cross-functional project teams, interfacing with manufacturing, office, technical, and managerial staff to gather and refine functional requirements and specifications; draw upon knowledge and experience to advise team members on the information technology aspects of projects; recommend alternative methods that will reduce complexity, promote standardization, and improve efficiency of applications and supported processes
·         Produce written documentation detailing project objectives and rationale, application specifications, procedural requirements, and descriptions of application functions
·         Create written user operating instructions and technical documentation
·         Respond to software issues reported by users, conduct research to determine corrective action, and develop and deploy patches and upgrades to existing systems
·         Design and produce reports for management and production personnel using SQL Server stored procedures and SQL Server Reporting Services
·         Create, test, and maintain database-enabled VBA macros to automate Excel spreadsheets that present production and accounting data for analysis
·         Analyze system capabilities to resolve questions regarding program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls; advise technical and managerial staff on technical feasability of various solutions




Requirements:
·         BS degree, preferably in computer science or an engineering discipline
·         5+ years of experience developing client/server applications using Microsoft C#.NET and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (or higher) stored procedures, and Microsoft Office Suite (VBA)
·         Strong TSQL coding skills are a must
·         Must have experience integrating new applications, and existing application enhancements, into an overall system framework to ensure scalability and extensibility
·         Must be able to work independently as well as on teams
·         Must be able to make decisions regarding technical approach to meet objectives of assignments
·         Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings

Preferences:
·         Experience interfacing to ERP and CRM systems is preferred
·         Experience developing solutions for use in manufacturing environments and familiarity with APICS body of knowledge is preferred
·         Familiarity with Visual Basic.NET is a plus
·         Experience supporting and enhancing Microsoft Access applications is a plus


MANUFACTURING PROCESS ENGINEER

Responsibilities: 
·         Design, develop, and implement technical solutions relating to optical fabrication applications in the areas of precision polishing, grinding, and shaping
·         Research, design, and develop optical fabrication technology, processes, and related tooling
·         Perform a variety of research and testing for development of production processes
·         Formulate process instructions and procedures
·         Perform root cause analysis and implement changes to reduce waste and cycle time


Requirements:
·         Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field is required
·         Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite is required
·         Strong organizational and communications skills (both written and verbal) are required
·         Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts is preferred
·         Manufacturing internship experience preferred









MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Responsibilities:
·         Perform troubleshooting and repairs of fabrication machinery and equipment controls
·         Service and repair precision machinery including PLC or DCS controlled devices
·         Work independently or with fellow technicians to identify root cause events and areas for improvement
·         Support engineers with new designs, calibrations, and installations
·         Conduct routine or special inspections to determine maintenance activities to prevent breakdowns of facility equipment and discrete machinery
·         Use hand and power tools
·         Test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machines using prints, diagrams, specifications, and manufacturers drawings
·         Support other areas:  HVAC, plumbing, sheet metal, and welding

Requirements: 
·         Candidate must be able to work the following schedule: Thursday through Sunday: 4:15pm - 2:45am (Four 10-hour days)
·         High school diploma plus a minimum of eight years of direct experience in a manufacturing environment is required; or a two-year technical degree with a minimum of three years of experience is preferred
·         Possess basic electrical skills including motor control, electrical distribution, and machinery installation
·         Possess basic mechanical skills repairing and maintaining manufacturing machinery and equipment
·         Ability to use a ladder, work in elevated work areas, and frequently lift up to 45 pounds
·         Experience in servicing and maintaining HVAC equipment is a plus
