OVERVIEW
L3Harris
Technologies – Kigre, Inc. is based in Hilton Head, SC and has built its
business on excellence and scientific innovation. Kigre is known as a
specialist in laser glass formation, fabrication, and precision machining and
polishing. Kigre laser components and sub-systems are used in a wide variety of
applications for a worldwide base of customers in industry, government and
education.
POSITION
PURPOSE
Develop and improve Kigre’s laser production, test, and
inspection processes. Requires excellent communication, teamwork, and
analytical skills as well as laser engineering, product design, and mechanical
experience. Has a high level of
technical expertise and skill, which is used to plan, optimize, identify Root
Cause and Corrective Action, identify, collect and analyze Manufacturing and
Quality Metrics and monitor manufacturing processes required for the production
of Laser Transmitters.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
·
Evaluate
manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication,
assembly, tooling, and materials.
·
Improve
manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space
requirements, and equipment layout.
·
Assure
product and process quality by designing test methods and confirming manufacturing
processes.
·
Regularly
facilitate and coordinate the evaluation of production data to provide
meaningful metrics to the operations team and identify key areas of improvement
using data from manufacturing.
·
Complete
design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
·
Keep
equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services.
·
Guide
cross functional teams in the implementation of continuous improvement
activities, reducing waste and non-value added activities by utilizing Lean Six
Sigma principles.
·
Identify faults,
investigate production problems and institute corrective action quickly and
efficiently. If a major failure occurs
institute and support the RCCA process.
·
Develop
training programs and provide training on process and assemblies.
·
Promote
and support Lean cultural developmental through coaching, training, and
facilitating potential failure modes and implement robust mitigations.
The
successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
·
Design,
maintain, and improve, as required, new tools, fixtures, optical benches and
equipment to meet changing production needs and new products.
·
Troubleshoot
product and test equipment in cleanroom environment.
·
Develop
manufacturing processes for new products.
·
Institute, Monitor,
analyze and report to upper management the results of a Continual Improvement
Program.
·
Institute, collect and
analyze statistical metrics that monitor and determine production efficiencies.
·
Create
work instructions.
·
Specify
new equipment such as optical test equipment, assembly equipment, inspection
equipment.
·
Lay
out and improve work areas and equipment.
·
Provide
input to product engineers to improve the manufacturability/reliability of new
and existing products.
·
Monitor
and report process performance metrics.
·
Provide
estimates for new products including capital expenditures, process development
labor and materials, setup and changeover labor, standard labor hours, lead
time, and throughput.
·
Improve
the quality, reduce cost, improve schedule, and reduce the risk of existing
processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
·
Bachelor’s
Degree in an Engineering, Quality
or Science discipline, with a focus on Lasers or Electro-Optics from an
accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education, training and
experience.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
·
The
ideal candidate would possess the following skills:

Hands-on mechanical, optical and
laser assembly aptitude and experience.
·
Creative

Lean
manufacturing.
·
Continuous improvement methodologies.
·
Statistical Process Control.
·
Able to articulate fundamentals of process
design, development and testing of optical and electro-optical components and
systems.
·
Knowledge of solid-state lasers and optics,
testing, integration, documentation and configuration control.
·
Knowledge of design for manufacturability and
reliability.
·
Experience working on multiple product development cycles from
concept through production.
·
Experience
with the integration and test of preproduction prototypes and documentation of
laser assembly, alignment, test and troubleshooting techniques.
·
Self-starter, able to work on
projects with multiple deadlines and tight time constraints.
·
Proven success in a fast paced
development and manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to take
ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure.
·
Possess exceptional communication
(both oral and written) and listening skills, with a strong orientation to
details, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
·
Strong
relationship building skills at all levels of an organization and the ability
to work effectively across functions within a matrix environment.
·
Proficient
in Microsoft Office products and SolidWorks 3D CAD design software.
- Excellent
communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a United States Citizen or
possess authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a
valid Passport.
- Ability to travel
periodically (nationally / internationally) to support product/customer
needs
- Able to work weekends and evenings
as required to meet company objectives.
