*PRIME STEM

See the attached flyer for more information on this program:

Our program provides significant academic support services to first generation, low-income, or students with disabilities. We are currently recruiting for 2016-2017 with a deadline of March 15. Would you be able to share the attached flyer with your Optics and Photonics undergraduates or with individual students who you think could benefit from the additional academic support? We offer one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, course selection assistance, help applying for financial aid and scholarships, and graduate and professional school preparation opportunities.

We are hoping to strengthen our on-campus partnerships for recruitment as the ability of faculty and advisors in departments to identify students who could benefit from the support is much greater that our mass recruitment efforts. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to meet to talk about the program benefits and requirements in more detail. Also, if you have any opportunities to speak with students directly about the program I would be happy to do that as well.

Thank you,

Portraits

From Amy Perry:

Hi!  I have scheduled a photo session for Tuesday, Feb 2, 11 am to 2:00 pm.  Below is the location.

Classroom Bldg. I, Room 202,
The Faculty Multimedia Center
Photographer - Jon Findell

Please forward this note on to the other students that were interested having a portrait taken.

The photographer is really easy to work with so I suggest that you look at the photo right after he takes it and let him know your personal favorite.  J

Once I have the files from the photographer, I will post on the web, for those currently listed, and send to the student directly.

Thank you!

Internship in Jena, Germany

We would like to kindly ask you for support to find students who want to do an internship in Jena next summer:
RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American and British universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions.
  • DAAD provides students a monthly stipend for three months to help cover living expenses
  • Host universities and institutes provide housing assistance and match students with Ph.D. student mentors
  • German language is not required and the working language will be in English
RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany is funded by the German Federal Office.

Our PhD students from the GRK 2101 (http://www.asp.uni-jena.de/IRTG2101_research_program.html) are offering several topics for internships (available after login).
We would be very grateful if you could inform your students about that opportunity. (Applicants are required to have completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree program by the time of the internship.)

And the online application system for our Master’s degree program is open again. If you have interested students we would be grateful, if you could inform them.

Thank you very much!
Kindest regards,
Dorit
