Description

:  
As a Janos Optical Design Engineer you will specialize in creating designs for infrared imaging, primary within the 1.5 to14µm bands. We are looking for someone that has a strong passion for optical design and solving unique and challenging problems. As a manufacturer of components and assemblies, Janos is looking to this position to leverage our current capabilities and develop new capabilities when optical design justifies the need.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a reliable and adept designer whom can lead the project team in success.  

This job falls under ITAR regulations and requires US Citizenship to be considered for the role.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Derive optical specifications from system performance requirements
Perform optical design using Optical Design Software such as Zemax and/or Code V, and perform tolerance analysis for manufacturability
Work with team members on design, tolerance analysis, proto-types, evaluation, testing and manufacturing support
Evaluate system optical performance through design and execution of build. 
Help to define requirements boundaries for other sub-system groups (Mechanical, Electronics, Control and Software)
Assist in New Product Introduction and Supply Chain Management process 
Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, customer service, and sales
Keep informed on industry trends and champion incorporation as appropriate
Limited domestic travel
 

Qualifications

:  
REQUIREMENTS:  
B.S. degree in optical design with Postgraduate degree preferred
Ability to become SME experience with Zemax optical-design software
Tolerancing to performance criteria using Zemax and Code V is necessary
Stray light analysis using FRED or other software a plus.
Design experience in IR, visible spectral ranges and coatings for system performance. With preference given to experience designing in the 1.5 to 14µm 
Hands-on experience with opto-mechanical systems development. Lab, proto-type development, element fabrication, alignment and assembly experience.
Have strong written and oral communication skills and commitment to achieve results on time
Ability to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively with a multi-site team and be willing to take on responsibility, follow through and keep multiple simultaneous assignment on schedule
Strong problem-solving skills, provide detailed designs, and ability to navigate ambiguous early scoping work
Familiarity with Military infrared-based systems a plus
